Masons and Eastern Stars from various jurisdictions across the nation will be attending the 2012 Unity Conference of African American Masons (UCAAM) Family Reunion. The Cosmopolitan Hotel will be the official host for this event that will be held October 4 – 8, in the bright lights of Las Vegas, Nevada. The visions and dreams of uniting all masons came to light through Illustrious Freddie G. Washington, Sovereign Grand Master of The Most Worshipful John A. Bell Sovereign Grand Lodge, located in Los Angeles, California. Illustrious Washington has diligently and continuously held the vision to unite all Masons and open the way for dialog. He serves as the Chairman of the Board for UCAAM and has picked up that beacon of light to continue a vision that has come true. The theme for the 2012 Unity Conference is “Traveling for a Greater Purpose.” This is a significant event historically because Masons of color have never collectively united from various jurisdictions throughout the United States in the 230 plus years that Masons and Eastern Stars have been known to exist in this country. The history of Masons has expanded through the years. However, Masons in this country have continued to be divided along racial lines, even though there is a mutual respect between the races internally for Brothers and Sisters because of the traditions of this craft. This conference will embark on opening the lines of communication regardless of color, rank or jurisdiction, both domestically and internationally. “Traveling for a greater purpose” has been the aspiration of members from across the country who have expressed their desire to meet other Brothers and Sisters outside their own lodges and chapters. UCAAM is committed to bridging nationalities internationally. This first historical Masonic family reunion will expand this commitment, and continue expanding the benevolent and charitable activities of the craft. This family reunion is an opportunity for Masons and Eastern Stars to network with each other and spread their talents, experiences and expertise across state lines and abroad as a common denominator. Communication between members of all Masonic organizations is significant for the changing times and to continue the growth of the Masonic Order. Inviting family members and friends will open the doors to continued long standing traditions by passing the light and knowledge of a great craft to new candidates that desire to become Master Masons and Eastern Stars as an inherited rite. As part of the ceremony on October 5, a live concert will feature the “International Drums of Fire”, Senegal West African music that tells the story of the Dogon Tribe and the Wollif people in Senegal using the drums. The conference will feature seminars, vendors, and live entertainment each night with artists on the label of Sovereign Grand Records that will include rapper, “BUGZY”, R & B group “Spontaneous Combustion”, blues group known as “ERMA”, featuring recording artist “Wilma Johnson”, which is one of St. Louis' own. The closing program will feature the “Holy Graal” taking the stage for a spiritual uplifting with key note ministers from various states. The Chairman of the Board, Bro. Washington, has affirmed that this reunion will be upbeat from the day the doors open for this event until the last second. Sis. Lois Pritchett is the representatives for all the sisters of The Order of the Eastern Star and committed to making sure all the Stars are at the event and have an active role of participation.
