The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at approximately 5:20 p.m. at 517 18th Street Ensley. The victim has been identified as: Johnta Tate, B/M, 28, of Birmingham, Alabama. Officers from the West Precinct responded to the incident location to investigate a call of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue transported the victim to UAB Hospital for treatment. Hospital staff pronounced the victim deceased upon arrival. The suspect was taken into custody a short time after the incident. Officers learned that the victim and suspect were involved in a dispute just before the shooting.
