MONTOGMERY—With the start of preseason work only weeks away, one would think a coaching staff would be trying to find as much leisure as possible before getting back to the long hours of in-season activity, but that is far from what is happening with Alabama State University head volleyball coach Penny Lucas-White.
As she concludes her on-campus camps this week, Lucas-White has been asked to speak at the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) high school volleyball coaches clinic on Wednesday, July 11 at the Renaissance Hotel located in downtown Montgomery.
This week Lucas-White is concluding her camps with two sessions.  The first three days (July 9-11) will serve as an all skills camp and the final three days (July 12-14) are focusing on setters and hitters.
"I'm excited to work with the athletes that have chosen to attend our volleyball camp here at Alabama State," Lucas-White said.  “I think it shows that we are willing to invest in our community as well as continue to grow the sport of volleyball."
"We have several campers that have come from other states; such as, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia and Kansas.  This will only increase Alabama State University's visibility and it helps with recruiting,"
While her camp continues under the leadership of assistant coach Verna Julaton, Lucas-White will take time out Wednesday to lead the three AHSAA clinics with the first slated for 8:30-9:45 a.m.  The next will run from 10-11:45 a.m. and the final clinic of the day will be from 1-2:15 p.m.
“I am honored the AHSAA has asked me to address the high school coaches during these clinics,” Lucas-White said.  “It is another opportunity for me to meet with and get to know the coaches and for them to learn a more about ASU Lady Hornet volleyball.  I have said it before, the state of Alabama is extremely hungry to see the growth of volleyball and I am looking forward to being part of that excitement with these coaches tomorrow.”
The volleyball portion of the AHSAA All-Star Sports Week will conclude on Thursday, July 12th with the All-Star Volleyball match to be held at Faulkner University beginning at 4 p.m.
