Helping Fathers Reconnect with their Children This Saturday, June 16, at 1p.m., the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District (HABD) will be hosting a Father’s Day Initiative for children who reside in Birmingham’s public housing. Held at the Smithfield Community Center, 150 Rev. Abraham Woods Jr. Blvd, the Father’s Day Initiative seeks to help fathers of all ages strengthen the family by reconnecting them with their children. This event will provide participating fathers with employment opportunities, health and wellness forums, and parenting resources. Last year was the first time for the Father’s Day Initiative with over 100 participants. According to Naomi Truman, the executive director of HABD, this affair is one of the premiere events that the Birmingham Housing Authority hosts annually and all employees work extra hard to ensure the event goes beyond expectation. The 2012 Father’s Day Initiative is a U.S. Housing & Urban Development Partnership event and will host a variety of family fun including entertainment, prizes, food and a special guest. |
