Let such a person consider this, that what we are in word by letters when we are absent, such we will also be in deed when we are present. 2 Corinthians 10:11 On Saturday a child that I had the pleasure of working with drowned while in a pool unsupervised. During the school year there was never a positive word spoken about this child and no serious effort was put forth to assist him with his learning disabilities by those that were responsible for him. On several occasions I had to reprimand adults that were predicting his future in prison and meetings with his mother never resulted in change. Now that God has called the child home, everyone seems to have a face of remorse but no one seems to see where they may have went wrong and no one wants to discuss how they can do things differently next school year. There is truly an element of compassion and direction missing from our Urban school systems and something needs to be done about it right away. Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel. Philippians 1:27 Jesus was very particular about children and how they were treated and today we should be too. A child does not know more than that which is taught and shown to them. As parents, teachers, preachers, counselors or even neighbors, we need to stop looking at the child’s behavior as an issue and see it as a cry for help. There needs to be more compassion and understanding for the child that does not receive guidance and discipline at home. There needs to be more assistance given to the child that seems to fall short in understanding the lessons taught. Something has to change to save our future because as it stands today - SOMETHING IS SURELY MISSING! Make a commitment to help a child succeed, Deidra Brown |
