Page 1 of 2 Politics never ends ![]() By the time you get through with the mayor’s race it’s time to get ready for the State House, State Senate and Governor’s race; now thrown in is the County Commissioner’s race, then the City Council race; then the Presidential race. I would like to start discussing the William Bell mayoral race, which starts all over again in about 16 months. For whatever reason, the Bell mayoral leadership will be more scrutinized by all segments of the population, which includes the media, average voters and the business community, than any other mayor in the history of the City. My guess is there are several reasons for this. Bell followed two mayors, who in the minds of some people, one did nothing and the other overdid it. Another reason is Bell’s name has been around forever in Birmingham politics. He has tried, on many occasions, to reach the top of the political heap in this city. A lot of the scrutiny will also come from the City Council within the next four or five weeks before the honeymoon ends. |
