No matter what, God reigns“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men, For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” First Timothy 2:1-2. Congratulations to our new president-elect! This has been a historical election and we thank God that no matter what has transpired during this long election process, God is still on the throne. This is only the beginning, and those who are in the household of faith, especially those in the household of faith, need to pray for those in authority. That not only applies to those in authority in our places of worship, but for those who are put in leadership positions when it comes to our government. Hebrews 11:6 tells us, “So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” I love this, because no matter who is in leadership, no matter what is going on, the Lord is my helper and I will not fear. So much has taken place over the past few months. Many of us have seen our 401Ks and other investments lose money (on paper if you haven’t cashed them out yet). We have just witnessed an unprecedented election take place. Many have gotten involved during this election cycle unlike ever before. And still, no matter what, God is sovereign. God reigns. We don’t have to fear. God still sits high and looks low. And most importantly, God cares for you. Originally I titled this article, “Praying for those in authority.” My intent was to encourage us to pray for those in positions in the government regardless of whether we supported and/or voted for them or not. But as I was writing this, God pressed upon my heart to let you know that no matter what is going on in our lives, He still reigns. Whether things are up or down, whether things are going our way or not, regardless of who is in the White House and in the various states’ capitols and branches of government, God still reigns. So carry whatever burdens you may have, carry your concerns, carry your disappointments, and carry your joys to the Lord. Yes, carry joy to the Lord. So many times we only think God wants to hear about the bad things. But He cares about every area of our lives. Yes, He tells us to cast our cares upon Him because He cares for us. But we can celebrate our joys with Him because He cares for us. No matter what is going on – the good and the bad – God cares and He still reigns. I love that about God. His Word is the rock we can stand on. Unmoveable! May I have a “Word” with you? Yes, we need to pray for those in authority in our places of worship. Yes, we need to pray for those in our family. Yes, we need to pray for those in government making decisions that impact our lives. But no matter what, God is still God. I say to you, God reigns in my life. I pray you have allowed Him to reign in yours. Not just asking Jesus to be your Savior, but giving Him lordship. So no matter who is at the top –whether it’s someone we think should be president or not, in a position of government or not – we need to look to the hills from whence comes our help. Our help comes from the Lord. He reigns. Still, I thank God for what I have witnessed during this presidential election. Yes, He has allowed us to see something many never thought we would ever witness in our lifetime. People of God, no matter what, God reigns!
