Jazz vocalist extraordinaire Akua Allrich has released yet another CD of wonderful tunes. Uniquely Standard is the title of Akua Allrich’s latest.  Recorded live in Washington D.C. at The Bohemian Caverns and THEARC Theater, Uniquely Standard is certainly an exceptional collection.
Akua is the epitome of an artist. This is confirmed true as she has more than proven herself as a vocalist, composer and teacher.  Additionally, she can sing in a number of languages that include English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Xhosa and Twi. She possesses a distinctive style that has permanently scored a place for her among numerous fans across many genres.
The 11 track compilation opens with “My Baby Just Cares For Me.” This is just a fun tune and this is what is felt as Akua sings it. It purely resonants that Akua is having a good time. “Sinnerman” shows the versatility of Akua’s vocal range. It presents the forceful side of her vocals, something that is not often seen but very much appreciated. It is magnificent.
“Black Coffee” is a saucy number that is absolutely fantastic. This is, just by far, an album favorite and it is bound to garner her much success. Akua really poured her emotions into this track. Included on Uniquely Standard are selections “Wishful Thinking”, “Afro Blue”, “I Wish You Love” and others. Akua is blessed with crystal clear vocals and an immeasurable range.  She is a forever evolving free spirit that mesmerizes her audiences with her dynamic voice and refined elegance.
Akua Allrich is a D.C. girl and she hails from a musical family. Agyei Akoto, her father was a founding member of the jazz group Nation.  Akua has a Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz vocals and a Master degree in Social Work from Howard University. Kehembe Eichelberger, Grady Tate and Charles Covington are just some of the talents that have mentored her.
