“The Arts in Blue” The Annual Finer Womanhood Luncheon of Zeta Sorority, Alpha Sigma Zeta Chapter was held at the Harbert Center, Saturday, April 7, at 11 a.m. under a cloud of blue. Laura Lane introduced the Master of Ceremony, Jermaine “Funny Maine” Johnson who portrayed his name well. A positive start for the luncheon was given by Gwendolyn Taylor as she gave the invocation, followed by a warm and sincere welcome and occasion by Desiree L. Smith. Music by Kelvin Benion and Michael Ham, well-known musicians in the city and state, set the tone for an enjoyable afternoon. A presentation of The Arts in Blue consisted of MIND, BODY and SPIRIT. Attorney Daisy M.Holder spoke on MIND which set both a spiritual and educational tone for the afternoon. BODY was presented in the form of a dance by the Jackson-Olin High School Lyrical Dance Ensemble. Yasha Stewart and Chandrelle Seltzer depicted the SPIRIT in the form of a duet by singing “His Eye is on the Sparrow”; Reginald Yarbrough sang tunes by the late Donny Hathaway and Marvin Gaye. Also, an eloquent rendition of “Amazing Grace” was rendered by violinist, Premise Cunningham. Naomi Wallace, a senior at Wenonah High School, was the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority’s 2012 Scholarship recipient. Helen Cunningham recognized the Pan Hellenic Council in a unique manner. Pastor Robert Dawson closed “The Arts in Blue” with the Benediction.

Also in attendance were Rosa Hanks, Brother Louis Harris, Eugenia Harris, Corlis McCurdy, Louis Benion, Tiffany Todd, Alice Ramsey, Mattie Todd, Ann Guice, Mildred Ward, Sadie Denson and Cynthia Ward.
